The “new” qualifying format gets its second use this weekend with Saturday’s Drydene 311 at Dover International Speedway. This format weighs the finishing position, fastest lap rank, and overall season points standing of each driver, and then determines the starting lineup. For most weeks, we can expect the most recent race winner to be on the pole. That’s the case this Saturday, as Chase Elliott will lead the field to the green on Saturday. We will also race at Dover on Sunday and the starting lineup will be set by a top 20 invert for that race.
