All of the legal drama surrounding Kurt Busch has finally come to a head. On February 20, 2015–just two days before the season-opening Daytona 500–NASCAR decided to suspend the previous champion indefinitely with allegations of domestic abuse looming above the Stewart-Haas drivers’ head. NASCAR issued this statement on Friday:
“Given the serious nature of the findings and conclusions made by the Commissioner of the Family Court of the State of Delaware, NASCAR has indefinitely suspended driver Kurt Busch, effective immediately. He will not be allowed to race nor participate in any NASCAR activities until further notice. Kurt Busch and his Stewart-Haas Racing team are fully aware of our position and why this decision was made. We will continue to respect the process and timetable of the authorities involved.”
Busch and his attorney, Rusty Hardin, are planning an immediate appeal.
Although nothing has been confirmed out of the Stewart-Haas camp, rumors have been floating around that Regan Smith will be filling in for Kurt Busch, at least for the Daytona 500 on Sunday. This story will be updated once details are confirmed. From a fantasy perspective, obviously you should avoid Kurt Busch, but his replacement may be of some value, especially in salary cap leagues.
