Auto Club Speedway is the site of this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race with the annual Auto Club 400. Also referred to as Fontana, Auto Club is a 2-mile track that is the sister venue of Michigan International Speedway–so it’s a good idea to throw in Michigan when analyzing statistics for your Fantasy NASCAR picks. Fontana is also a high wear race track, and if you want to look at other high wear venues, they would be: Atlanta, Chicagoland, Darlington, and Homestead. All four of those are less than 2 miles in length, though.
There are quite a few statistics that go into the Power Index formula, including recent performance both overall and at Auto Club Speedway specifically, similar track performance, projected strength of the car, practice speeds, starting position, and a few other variables.
Here’s a quick overview of the Power Index number: essentially, zero (0) is considered average; the more negative a number is in the Power Index, the stronger that driver is considered in the Fantasy NASCAR world. The opposite holds true as well: the more above zero a driver is, the worse he is considered for Fantasy NASCAR that week.
