Round 2 of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs concludes this weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL course. This layout is part road course, part oval, and we’ve really seen some exciting racing here for the two events that have happened so far. As is the case with any road course race, there are really only a handful of drivers that have a very good shot at winning this race, but we’ve seen strategy come into very often on the road courses over the years. As you can see below, the algorithm agrees that there are only four or five drivers that it really likes on Sunday, and the #1 ranked driver might surprise you!
There are quite a few statistics that go into the Power Index formula, including recent performance both overall and at the Charlotte ROVAL specifically, similar track performance, projected strength of the car, practice speeds, starting position, and a few other variables.
Here’s a quick overview of the Power Index number: essentially, zero (0) is considered average; the more negative a number is in the Power Index, the stronger that driver is considered in the Fantasy NASCAR world. The opposite holds true as well: the more above zero a driver is, the worse he is considered for Fantasy NASCAR that week.
